On June 11th 2021 we saw the start of the greatest European soccer tournament, the one that we were all expecting to see the year before. In keeping up with the course of the major disruption that the COVID-19 pandemic produced in our lives, this year's edition went on under the UEFA Euro™ 2020 name, somehow trying to bring back some normalcy — even if only for the history books.
On this dedicated page you can find a wide range of information, centralized and verified by us, as well as direct links and shortcuts for your convenience. This page also acts as the delivery page for our usual major tournament analysis covering all the matches from the tournament kick-off in Rome until the last games of the Group Stage on June 23rd 2021.
UEFA Euro™ 2020 — Tournament Overview
The 16th edition of the UEFA Euro™ was hosted by various nations all over the continent to mark the competition's 60th anniversary. This logistics challenge saw matches played in eleven countries, in cities stretching from Glasgow to Baku. The UEFA Euro™ 2020 edition was also the first time we saw the use of VAR at the final stages of a European international competition.
The previous edition's format was kept, with 24 teams giving us 36 games in the Group Stage between June 11th and 23rd, and 8 matches in the Round of 16 between June 26th and 29th. The Quarter-Finals were played on July 2nd and 3rd, the Semi-Finals on July 6th and 7th at Wembley, and the Final on July 11th — also at Wembley in London.
The tournament had a specific rule book tailored to address COVID-19 health concerns, including five substitutions per game (even six in extra time), squad expansion to 26 players, and specific rescheduling options for teams facing outbreaks.
