2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ - Tournament Overview
globe
The 20th edition of the World Cup™ was hosted for the second time by Brazil, 64 years after their first hosting experience. It was an outstanding soccer and organizing experience, more colorful and sound richer than the previous World Cup™ edition hosted by South Africa in 2010. Brazil's bid was proven a winner on October 30th 2007 and from December 6th 2013 the World Cup™ groups configuration was established.

The second in-a-row World Cup™ to be hosted by a country from the Southern Hemisphere, the 2014 World Cup Brazil™ edition also saw another absolute premiere - the introduction to what is the ultimate soccer tournament, the FIFA World Cup™, of the hockey proven Goal Line Technology. This system enables referees to better judge the confusing goal situations and, theoretically at least, avoid situations like the one that took place in the game between England and Ukraine during the last European Championship edition of 2012, when Ukraine were denied a perfectly valid goal.
So, the first FIFA World Cup™ edition to be held in South America in 36 years since the Argentinean edition of 1978 promises to provide all the excitement and money making opportunity expected from a World Cup™ finals tournament, while also giving the defending champions and current World Cup™ holders Spain the chance to establish a record of their own - as the first European team to consecutively win three World Cup™ and one European championship tournaments.
