The FIFA World Cup™ 2018 was the 21st edition of the tournament, hosted by Russia across 12 venues in 11 cities spanning a vast geographical spread from Kaliningrad on the Baltic to Yekaterinburg in the Urals. The tournament ran from June 14th through to the Final on July 15th at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow — France's second World Cup triumph.
France defeated Croatia 4–2 in the Final, with an own goal, a penalty and goals from Pogba and Mbappé (who became the second teenager after Pelé to score in a World Cup Final). Defending champions Germany crashed out in the Group Stage for the first time since 1938. The tournament is also remembered for the debut of VAR at a World Cup — a tool that divided opinion throughout. Harry Kane of England claimed the Golden Boot with 6 goals.
