FIFA World Cup™ 2022

Qatar · November 20 – December 18, 2022 · 32 teams · 64 matches

World Cup 2022

The FIFA World Cup™ 2022 was the 22nd edition of the tournament and the first ever held in the Arab world. Qatar hosted all 64 matches across 8 purpose-built or heavily renovated stadiums within a 75km radius of Doha — making it the most geographically compact World Cup in history. In a historic first, the tournament was moved to November–December to avoid Qatar's extreme summer heat.

Argentina won the trophy for the third time in their history, defeating France in one of the most dramatic finals ever played — 3–3 after extra time, before winning on penalties. Lionel Messi finally claimed the one trophy missing from his legendary career, scoring twice in the final including one penalty in the shootout. Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick for France but finished on the losing side. It was an unforgettable conclusion to an extraordinary tournament.
